My name is Steve Lemoine and I've been
researching my ancestors for about 20 years. Most of my ancestors
were from Avoyelles Parish, Pointe Coupee, Cottonport, Bunkie and
Plaucheville Louisiana. If you have any information, or need
information on Guillaume or his father Jacques Lemoine please let me
know. Please be sure to see my Lemoine Family Page with links,
surname listings and many links to Avoyelles parish.
Avoyelles Parish Louisiana was settled
by mostly French Immigrants long before the Acadians came
to Louisiana. They first settled in Pointe Coupee' and New
Orleans then made their way to Avoyelles Parish by 1781.
Most of the Lemoines' of
Avoyelles are descendant of Guillaume Lemoine. He was a
resident of Pointe Coupee' from about 1740 until his death, August
8th, 1771. Guillaume was an employee of the Company of the Indies,
(originally the Western Company & later called the
Mississippi Company), Master of a Launch (patron de
chaloupe). He was born in Notre Dame parish, LeHarve, Normandy in
1699, the son of Jacques Lemoine a seafarrer or sailor and mother
Jeanne Madre. Guillaume married at New Orleans April 4, 1725 to
Marie Sanmerine, daughter of Edmael Sanmerine and Annemarie
Edelmire, native of the Palatinate. Marie died at Pointe
Coupee' November 15, 1741. Guillaume then married Marie
Gaynard on August 21, 1742 in Pointe Coupee'.
Guillaume was living on Royal St. in New
Orleans in 1726/1727 and sold his house to Francoise Brunet. In 1744
he hired an apprentice, Paul Moreau to teach him shoemaking and
farming, in return Paul would teach him to read and write but
Guillaume never learned. Children of Guillaume & Marie
were:
Marie Jeanne (b1728-d1765)
Charles (b1729-?)
Marie Francoise (b1739-d1792)
Simon (b:20-Oct-1734-d?)
Antoinette (b1737-d1772)
Jean Baptiste (b1741-d1826)
Etienne (b?-d:13-Aug-1763)
Louis (b:abt 1732-
d:31-Jul-1756)
